George Barnsley b1837 - 1895 - offspring

G'day folks

Looking at Census records I've found George with a child Annie. According to the book "Forging History" he had no children.

On 1861 census Elizabeth (Mum) appears as Asenath

Can anyone give me any clues here please?

Also the book states George & Elizabeth were married 1864 and I couldn't find a record for that date but did find one for 1856 in Fleet Street London.

I can't imagine the author has made mistakes.

cheers
Leisa

Leisha,
Asenath is spelled Azenath Sayles on Findmypast married on Feb 20 1860.Both living on Coalpit Lane.Married at St Matthews Carver St.

With wife Asenath and daughter Amey b 1861 84 Carlisle St East in 1871 census.
With wife Azenath and daughter Annie b 1861 carlisle St East in 1861 census.

I've seen the scans and they are very clear but confusing.

The author may not have made a mistake but the printer could have.

I'd worked out Amey and Annie are the same person already.

Author says wife is Miller not Sayles.

I'm wondering whether I'm mixing up my George Barnsleys - there are a few of them.

Re: George Barnsley b1837 - 1895 - offspring

There are two George Barnsley born around the same time, one married to Elizabeth and the other to Asenath.

The one married to Asenath is not the George who died in 1895, his occupation is a Table Knife Hafter, and George Barnsley 1837-1895 was indeed married to Elizabeth and was made a partner in his father's company in 1858.

George Barnsley married Elizabeth Miller August 20 1856 in the parish of St Bride London. His father is listed as George Barnsley. Manufacturer
Elizabeth's father is listed as Gentleman.

thank you

Hi Leisa

I should add that the other George Barnsley married Azinath SAYLES 20 Feb 1860 at St Matthews, Sheffield.

His occupation is given as Knife Hafter and his father George is a Tailor.
Azinath's father is Edward SAYLES a File Striker.
