I've had another thought, if the family were not Catholic then the nearest church was the Wicker congregational at the bottom of Grimesthorpe Rd. The whereabouts of the records is unknown last i looked.
I've just been down to the archives and looked through St Catherines and no Fothergill for the date you gave us, ruling out R/c, i'd still go with Wicker congregational.
Looking at an old Alan Godfrey Map (1903 & 1921).... 43 Carlisle Street I believe could fall in the Parish of St Thomas Upwell Street.
Most of Carlisle Street had large works there with a few houses at the very beginning of the Street. I can see that the Wicker would be a good bet but as they are not showing up there I would check St Thomas out.
Bear in mind that Attercliffe was a hot bed of Methodism which would not show the baptism in our Database..
As you have the birth certificate you will have his parents names so can follow the line back.
I've just found his parents were married at All Saints Brightside whilst residing on Carlisle St, i should be in the archives on Monday to check that parish.
Emma,
i have been to the archives and found Colin Fothergill baptised Feb 13th 1924 born Jan 22. Parents were Joshua William and Florence, address was 43 Carlisle St fathers occupation was a saw hardener.
Either Stanley wasn't baptised, baptised later or elsewhere or i missed it earlier.
The church was All Saints Brightside, same place the parents married.
