Re: John Hannam motor engineer

Steve,
From the online patents database Espacenet:
UK Patent 191200027(A)
Title: Improvements in Spring Forks for Velocipedes, Cycles and the like.
Priority 1.1.1912
Published 22.8.1912
Inventor John Richardson Hannam.

Your grandfather would have been only 19 on the application date (that is priority date) Was his father also John Richardson?, or did he really invent this at 19 years old?
Regards, Dave

PS I have not checked if the application was expanded overseas. If it was, then that may explain the "several patents"

Re: John Hannam motor engineer

Steve
There is a second patent in your grandfathers name.. It is GB436210(A) with priority date 8.3.1934. The title is "Improvements in or relating to Variable Speed Gear". The applicants were John Richardson Hannam, Henry Gregory and one other.
Sorry I missed it before. It is 15 years since I last worked with patents databases so I am a little rusty. It brings back nice memories so thank you.
Dave

Re: John Hannam motor engineer

Thanks Dave
John b1893 was the son of Charles Richard b1864. It may have been that they were registered in his sons name, as for overseas patents I am sorry I do not know.

Thanks again Steve

Re: John Hannam motor engineer

Steve, see also:
GB191218704(A) published 5.6.1913
Priority 15.8.1912
Improvements in Variable Speed Gearing
Applicant Charles Richard Hannam.
So the family memory was right in this case. There were " several" patents between them.
Dave

Re: John Hannam motor engineer

Hi Steve,

Not what you are looking for, but I thought it was quite amusing.

Sheffield Daily Telegraph, 17 September 1904.
John Booth charged with stealing a bicycle.
Prisoner hired a cycle from Mr. S. F. Hannam at 154 Main Road, Darnall.
Instead of returning the machine, he took it to the establishment of
Mr. Charles Hannam, 131 Bramall Lane, and offered it for sale. This
gentleman is the brother to the prosecutor and being unaware that it was
stolen, purchased the machine for 12s 6d.

Moira.

Re: John Hannam motor engineer

Thanks Moira

You are correct they were brothers, and it would not have gone down well.

Thanks for the smile Steve
