NBI Burial Look up

Morning,

I am looking for burials of William Mayo who died in Barnsley in Dec qtr 1915.
9c 282 aged 52yrs. His wife Annie Eliza nee Crossley died in 1944 could be in the same grave.

Much appreciated.

Re: NBI Burial Look up

Couldn't find a ref on the NBI, but electoral roll for 1915 shows a William Mayo in Barnsley at 23 Henshall Street, same as the 1911 census for him, closest cemetery would prob. be the huge one just around the corner on Cmetery Rd

Re: NBI Burial Look up

Thanks Richard,

Thats him for sure.... Maybe 1915 is to late for the NBI?

Found the Cemetery on Google Earth........It's huge.

Are there any Mayo's at all on that CD please.

Re: NBI Burial Look up

Hi Elaine,
NBI shows the following Mayo burials around 1915:
Moorgate Rotherham cemetery - Alfred 8 Nov 1917 age 35,Charles Ernest 23 Jul 1913 age 5 months, George Alfred 14 Jan 1912 age 13 months, Reginald 24 Dec 1913 age 3 months & Robert 15 Mar 1915 age 6 months.

Sheffield Tinsley Park cemetery - Arnold 26 Jan 1917 age 6 months, Harold 1 August 1915 age 12 months, Mary 27 Feb 1919 age 23 & Winifred 5 Aug 1918 age 2.
There seems to be no more Mayo's in West Riding of Yorkshire between 1910 & 1920. There is a Laura Edith 21 May 1921 age 13 in Rotherham Moorgate.
Best wishes, John

Re: NBI Burial Look up

Hi John,

Thanks for looking at the NBI. I don't think any are mine unfortunately.
I will check them out more closely.

Robert Mayo my 2x great grandfather was born in Brackley Northamptonshire in 1830.
He moved up to Barnsley/Cawthorne where five of his seven children were born.
The last two in Sheffield. I believe that Robert converted to RC about the time of his Sheffield move and the last two girls were baptised at St Marie.

William his son born 1860 is the one I am trying to trace and as far as I know he was an Anglican but I suppose that could have altered also.I have Ancestry so all the census material I have. It's where he was buried that has me hitting the brick wall.

Thanks again.

Re: NBI Burial Look up

Hi Elaine, I had a little more time this morning & have checked the NBI Barnsley listings & the only Barnsley listing on the disc is for St Mary's Church. Barnsley Cemetery on Cemetery Rd which would be likely to be where your William was buried was not included in the NBI.
If you have not already done so it may be worthwhile contacting the Friends of Barnsley Cemetery at http://friendsofbarnsleycemetery.webs.com/contactus.htm
Also Barnsley Council Bereavement Services at bereavementservices@barnsley.gov.uk
Best of luck, John
