Re: Elizabeth Briggs

Hi Everyone,
I managed to go to Sheffield Archives at the weekend and here is the update:

The marriage of Elizabeth Briggs to William Taylor in 1841. Elizabeth's father is named as Peter Bellamy, collier.
The marriage of Elizabeth Chapman to Benjamin Briggs in 1806, Elizabeth is a widow.
There is a marriage at Treeton (early Ulley residents
used the Church at Treeton) in 1784 between Peter Bellamy and Hannah Spacy but they appear to have had some children baptised at Sheffield Parish Church.
I can not find a marriage between an Elizabeth Bellamy and a man with the surname of Chapman.
The only one I found was between John Chapman and
Elizabeth Chester in 1804 at Sheffield Parish Church.
Also, I cannot find a baptism for an Elizabeth Bellamy.
Back to the drawing board I think.

Kind regards,
Moira.

Right, thinking cap on time again. I will have a closer look at your findings and see I can solve anything for you. Might be a few days though. John

Re: Elizabeth Briggs

There is a Baptism record on the S&DFHS CD for an ELIZA Bellamy on the 21/12/1794. Father Peter Bellamy Mother Hannah.
Peter's occupation is shown as Collier.

Re: Elizabeth Briggs

That means she would have been twelve when she first married!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Elizabeth Briggs

John S,

I put the details of that Baptism on as the Fathers details appear to tie in with the Fathers details on the Marriage of Elizabeth Briggs and William Taylor in 1841!!

She could have been Born some years prior to her Baptism, her Parents Married 1784!!

Re: Elizabeth Briggs

Sorry Joy, forgot about she could have been baptised at 10 years old. Silly me for forgetting a thing like that. John

Re: Elizabeth Briggs

Hi Joy,
I had seen the baptism for Eliza but discounted it because of the year.
It did'nt cross my mind that it could have been a late baptism.
I might go to the Archives again and see if it actually gives her age.

Many thanks,
Moira.
