Hi
I am in need of help looking for information on a William Eyre born 1787 Hoyland & married around 1815 a Martha born 1795 Sheffield where in Sheffield I do not know they could have married in Hoyland or Sheffield as William worked at the Milton Iron Works & he died 22 Oct 1848 Alderthwaite age 61 yrs & was buried in Wentworth after William,s death Martha went to live in Stubbin with some of the children.
1841 census living in Alderthwaite which was under Wath-upon-Dearne William,s age given as 50 yrs so it made him born 1791
1851 Census Martha lived with some of the children in Stubbin.
The youngest was Charles Eyre born 1835 my 2xgr-grandfather as far as I know there were no other children after Charles to get a birth certificate.
I would be greatful on any information on this from anyone as I live in Australia I know some of the local parishes changed from Barnsley to Rotherham then changed back again in 1974.
I contacted Barnsley they said Hoyland Records were in kept Sheffield.
Thank you
Jenny
Hi Jennifer,
I could not find a marriage for William and Martha at
Sheffield Parish Church.
I looked on Ancestry Trees and there are two people
searching for the same family. They both have Martha
as Martha Dixon 1795-1864 but neither of them give a
place of marriage. How they have come up with the surname Dixon without a marriage I do not know.
Perhaps you could contact them.
Kind regards,
Moira.
Was one of the children Martha went to live with called Sarah Eyre? If so in Wentworth there is a burial of a Sarah Eyre aged 25 on 25 Apr 1852 living in Stubbin at the time. Is this yours? John
