1891 census for ellen carr

Ellen Carr was born ellen evans in 1837,her first marriage was to john poole in 1856,he died in 1870 and ellen married thomas carr in 1871.she is on the 1871 census as ellen poole,on the 1881 census as ellen carr but she totally disappears on the 1891 census.her husband thomas is a lodger living on randall street on the 1891 census.by 1901 they are living together on pearl street.I have looked on ancestry under all her previous names and checked find my past for 1891,does anyone have any suggestions where else i can look for her.suggestions very welcome

Just as a matter of interest when you found Thomas as a lodger in 1891 did it say he was still married and is the Ellen Carr in 1901 fit with all other census returns. I was just wondering if Ellen had died by 1891 (hence Thomas lodging) and by pure coincidence he had married someone else called Ellen after the 1891 census had taken place. John

Re: 1891 census for ellen carr

hello john, yes it did say thomas carr was married on the 1891 census and ellens details are correct as well, ellen died in 1902,i just can't think what had happened to her in 1891!

would think possibly be a transcript error. How many children did they have and did they all marry - just wondering if she was living with a relative and they had put her down with the same surname as that relative. I shall sleep on it.

Do you know where Ellen was living when she died? Coud then look for a burial for her to see if that gives us any clues to married names for children

Re: 1891 census for ellen carr

Hi Carole
In 1891 Thomas Carr is lodging with William and Louisa Keeton. There is a marriage of a William Keeton to a Louisa Poole
Sept qtr 1888 Sheffield 9c 622.
I presume Louisa is Ellen's daughter.
Hope this helps
Sue
