At Wadsley Church there is a large grassed area with a recently erected headstone.
The inscription on the stone reads;
Below this grass area lie the remains of over 2,500 men, women and children from the South Yorkshire Asylum.
1872 - 1948
Was reading your reply Phil Rich regarding Wadsley Church and the recently errected haeadstone.
My Grandfather died at the South Yorkshire Asylum - April 20 1924.
I now know where he was buried. So sad.
Do you know if there is a list of names that were buried there. Would love to get a photograph of this headstone.
