PLEASE CAN YOU HELP ME ONCE AGAIN I AM LOOKING MARTIN WHEATCROFT BORN 1833 OLD BRAMPTON DERBYSHIRE, MARRIED 1885 TO A SARAH BOCOCK AND THE LAST CENSUS WAS 1871 HE WAS A TOLL KEEPER AT TAPTON BY 1881 HIS WIFE SARAH HAD TAKED OVER AS TOLL KEEPER. THE ONLY DEATH i CAN FIND IS APR - JUN 1890 AGED 70 SHEFFIELD, THIS 9 YEARS OLDER BORN 1822.
MANY THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP.
BEST WISHES.
FRED WHEATCROFT.
The 'Tapton' is the one in Chesterfield rather than the one in Sheffield.
In 1881 Sarah is at piece 3434 folio 28 page 5 (the Ancestry index points at the wrong page - two before this). Sarah is head of household, listed as married. Two children.
The Martin who died in 1890 in Sheffield was in Ecclesall in 1871, a groom and gardener born in Ashover. He is buried in the General Cemetery ('WHEATCOFT')
Hi Hugh,
Thank you very much for both of your very kind replies I will have to get a new pair of spec's,the 1871 & 1881 clearly states that it is the Chesterfield Taplow and not the sheffild Taplow I should be looking for,
My very best wishes.
Fred Wheatcroft.
