finding an obituary if possible for Martha Ann and Edwin Whitaker (grandparents)
Does anyone know of a short-cut to find an obituary?
I contacted the Sheffield records to find an Obituary and they say there would be a search charge.
I would like to try and see if there is an Obituary for
Martha Ann Whittaker who died 7 July 1950 aged 77 years,
Martha was buried in the City Road Cemetery, Sheffield. Section 001, grave 16307.
Also, Edwin Whitaker who died 17 September 1931 aged 59
12 Herries road was the hospital address. Edwin was living at 60 West Bar Green, Sheffield. Fanny Dracup his daughter was on the death notice. Edwin Buried September 23, in consecrated ground, grave #6729,section V3 of city road cemetery Sheffield.
This is a long shot hoping someone may have access to the records of a newspaper.
Thanks Barry

Barry,
I believe you can access Obits on line if you hold a Library Card.
I dont know how its done. Maybe someone who does it can explain
it to you. If not a visit to Sheffield Central Library would be called for.

whose unable to access them from this side of the pond.

Barry.
If you copy and paste the following web address into your address bar, then scroll down the page you can download the index to obituaries. This is only an index to obituaries No index exists for death notices in Sheffield newspapers.

This was the reply I received last week from the Sheffield Libraries/Archives.
If your people do not appear on the index, it means that there was no obituary in the Sheffield Telegraph, which I believe was the most common paper for an obituary to appear in. We can offer our research service, at a fee of £12 per half an hour, to search the Sheffield Star for obituaries and/or death notices.
The listing they sent no obituary appeared, I guess the only options I have now is to see if anyone has another suggestion for the Sheffield Star or pay the 12 pounds.
