I wonder if anyone could help. I am currently researching my grandads parents who come from down south. My grandads father died in 1921 in London on his way to cornwall to visit my gran who had just given birth to my grandad. According to my great grandparents marriage certificate my great grandad was married before and his wife died. They married in 1918, my great grandad was 46. My problem is I cannot find his birth record or find him on any census. I would like to find out who he married before my great gran. His full name acoording to his marriage certificate was Allan Galway Melville Smith.
I just keep thinking I'm missing something!
All I can tell you is that he married Olive Mary Instance on 20th December 1918 in Flushing, Cornwall. When she was giving birth to my grandad in October 1921 he was on his way to Cornwall from London where we think he worked, when he died of a burst appendix. His marriage certificate to my great gran said that he was 46 and he lived in West hampstead and his occupation was Assisstant clerk India office, it also said he was a widower. I've looked on FMP on the birth records and census and just can't find him. His father was called Charles Richard Melville Smith.
Sorry, that's all I know!! If I could just get a birth record or something it might just give it a kick start!!
Look at the family search site. Put in Allan Melville Smith and it brings up a burial for Evelyn Violet Smith spouse in Calcutta.
