Looking for George Rowe/Roe - born c 1887

My Grandfather was George Rowe, born c 1887 in Sheffield and married to Lottie Elizabeth White in 1911 in Aston. They lived in Hull where he was a Glass Worker. My Grandfather's father was also George Rowe/Roe married to a Sarah Ann Bownes I think.
I have tried the following birth references: 9c/522,569,and 621 which are all wrong. Can anyone help please.

Hi Terry,

If you enter Lottie Elizabeth White into FreeBMD leaving place & date empty.

There is a marriage to either James Geall or Samuel Bean in Dec 1909. Mansfield 7b 216.

Could she have been married to either of those two Gentlemen before to married your George?

I will let you look at Freebmd to work it out.

Thats the fun part.........

Elaine in Ottawa.

Re: Looking for George Rowe/Roe - born c 1887

Hello Terry,
On this site and on the IGI is a baptism for a George Roe,28th Jan 1886 at Emmanuel Church, Attercliffe.
Parents are George and Mary (Lab) of 337 Tinsley Road.

On the 1891 census this family are living at 9 Bessemer
Place, Attercliffe, Sheffield.
The eldest child is 14yrs old, giving a marriage date about 1874-5.

Do you think this could possible be your family?

Kind regards,
Moira.

Re: Looking for George Rowe/Roe - born c 1887

Many thanks for the replies to my query. I have my Grandparents Marriage Certificate and it shows Lottie to be a Spinster when she married George. The 1911 Census shows my Grandfather in digs in Hull just before marrying Lottie. In 1901, he was aged 15, Glass Worker, living in Sculcoates Hull with sister Annie and parents George and Sarah Ann. I have Annie's Birth Certificate which gives Sarah Ann's maiden name as Bownes. In 1891 census, George is 6 and the family are in Wallace Rd, Brightside with Jessie who dies soon after. George and Annie I think are the 2 surviving children from 17 (1911 census). I have tried to find my Grandfather's Birth Certificate but to no avail (he died in Jan 1962 in E Yorks aged 76).
Again many thanks to all
Terry

Re: Looking for George Rowe/Roe - born c 1887

According to the Sheffield BMD site, this birth was registered in Brightside:

GRO Births MAR Qtr 1887
Row Frederick George
Sheffield 9c 5_6

The digit in the page number, which the FreeBMD transcriber couldn't resolve looks like a '0' to me.

So, is it possible that he had an unexpected first name?

Hugh
