searching for

I am the President of the Friends of Seguin Island Light Station founded in 1795 by George Washington. I am looking for proof that the bell at the Boothbay Coast Guard Station in Boothbay Maine was removed from the island in 1985 when they left. We took over the island in 1986. There is a bell at the station that was cast in 1858 by the Sheffield Naylor Vickers Foundry under a Jones Patent of 1852. My historic records show a Jones fog bell ordered in 1854 for Seguin cost $2,500.00. In order to easily get the bell back I need proof that this bell is ours. My records show a Jones bell was purchased for Cape Elizabeth, Seguin, Whitehead, West Quoddy Head, and Petit Manan. The number on the bell is #705. I am most certain this is ours. Former coast guardsmen have identified it but if you have any further invoices or proof it would clinch my search and we could get our bell back. I have a helicopter waiting. Thank you very much!!! Re: searching for Invoice from Naylor Vickers & Co Founders.

Hi Kenneth,

If and I say if there are any records re the Bell that are surviving the only place would be Sheffield Archives. They are the holders of most material related to Sheffield Companies.

Sorry but thats the best suggestion I can come up with.

Kindest Regards.

Elaine in Ottawa.
