Isn't this the right Elizabeth in 1861 census as year of birth has been amended to 1857? Parents would have been too young to have a 11 year old. She is also on the 1871 as 13 so age was wrong in 1861 census.

Hi Moira,
Thank you very much for both your very kind replies to my question, Sorry I have not replied sooner my computer is playing silly devils or I have lost the plot all my E mails have vanished from my screen and I have just found your replies hile searching the Sheffield web site.
I am now looking for George wheatcroft birth c1852, I have just recieved a copy marriage certificate of George Wheatcroft aged 21and Elizabeth Godbehere aged 19 in sheffield, and his daughter Lucy born 1878 in Sheffield
no trace of her after the 1881 census.
Have you any idea why the town of Sheffield does not appear in the Yorkshire BMD web site.
I hope that you can help me again with this problem.
Many thanks once again.
My very best wishes.
Fred Wheatcroft.
Hello Fred,
On the marriage certificate of George Wheatcroft to
Elizabeth, does it give the name of George's father?
Also, on FreeBMD between 1876 and 1880 there is no
Lucy Wheatcroft registered but there is a Sarah Elizabeth Wheatcroft March Q 1878.
I'm beginning to think that they just gave the wrong
name on the 1881 census.
Kind regards,
Moira.
Hi Moira,
On the marriage certificate of George Wheatcroft his fathers name is given as William Wheatcroft he lived at 2 Sands Paviours Sheffield.
The only George Wheatcroft with the a father mane william was born in Belper Derbyshirebut The george I am looking for was occording to the 1881 census was born in Sheffield but he was living with a George Newby,
Many thanks for your very kind assistance with my research.
My very best wishes.
Fred Wheatcroft.
Fred

Ann Weatcroft - Wife - born 1808 Beatton Derbyshire
Elizabeth Weatcroft- daughter -spoon rubber( actually a spoon buffer) - b 1836 Sheffield
Mary Ann Weatcroft - daughter -fork filer b 1838
Sheffield
William Weatcroft - son - Errand boy - b 1842 Sheffield
Charlote Weatcroft -daughter - at home - b 1845 - Sheffield.
John Weatcroft - son - b 1848 - Sheffield
George Weatcroft - son - b 1851 Sheffield (8 months old)
The address is 1,Court,Shepherd Street Sheffield.

Hello Fred,
Just out of interest, I had a look at the 1841 census.
Rockingham Lane, Sheffield, Ecclesall Bierlow
William Wheatcroft 30yrs Carter No
His age has been transcribed as 35yrs, but it looks to me as though it has been altered to 30yrs.
Ann Wheatcroft 25yrs Y
Elizt. Wheatcroft 6yrs Y
Mary Wheatcroft 4yrs Y
Lucy Wheatcroft 1yr Y
As you can see, it has William born out of the county
but Ann born in the county. This is at odds with the 1851 census that Brian found.
Kind regards,
Moira.
Fred
The problem with census detail, there are loads of examples, when one knows it's the right family ,but the place of birth seems to change, for some unknown reason- on different census dates.
Years of birth can change also, this all adds to the confusion.
I suppose we are also relying on the accuracy of the chap taking down the census information , hence errors, with the spelling of names etc,and often the family could misspell - surnames, and Christian names.
Kind regards Brian
Hi Brian,
Thank you very much for both of your very kind replies
I will shace this up but from what you have said it looks very likely the william I am looking for at lease his son George matches with the George I have.
My best wishes.
Fred Wheatcroft.
Hi Moira,
Thanks very much for your latest information, as I have just wrote to Brian Iam sure this is the william that I am looking for.
My best wishes.
Fred Wheatcroft
Fred
I did email you the census image for -1851,I do hope you have received this ok.
I still think that Moiras 1841 census - detail is quite relevant, given the - general year of birth deviations, and places of birth,as I said previously can often be ,at odds with later census material.
Kind regards Brian.
Hello Brian and Fred,
I'm now at a bit of a loss re the Lucy/Elizabeth problem. In 1881 the Wheatcrofts have a daughter Lucy aged 3yrs. By 1891 there is no Lucy but a daughter
Elizabeth aged 13yrs.
On Free BMD I have searched all the Wheatcroft births between 1875 and 1883. No Lucy or Elizabeth.
There is one Lucy in DecQ 1877 but she is registered
in Newark. In the DecQ 1878 there is a Louisa Elizabeth
registered in Ecclesall B.
I think the only way to solve this is to find a baptism.
Kind regards,
Moira.
Moira
The Louisa E Wheatcroft b 1878 you mention shows up on the 1881 census - as b 1879 Sheffield.Piece 4623,Folio 26,Page 44

Wife - Ellen b 1856 Stafford.
and there other Daughter Beatrice Wheatcroft b 1881 Sheffield.
The head of the house is George Clark b 1827 Warwick Warwickshire - occupation sawyer.
His wife is Louisa Clark b 1829 Stafford.
William a Wheatcroft and wife Ellen ,are listed as their Nephew and Neice.
Kind regards Brian.
