Thanks Fin

Re: family search

I had family search.org favourited, and for ages you could use the old style searh page,I don't think you can now.
Kind regards Brian.

Re: family search

Though I do like the new familysearch site, there is a feature of the old site that I miss on this new one and I wonder if any one knows if you can do it on the new site? On the old site, when you had found the household you wanted on the 1881 census, you could then go to previous household or next household. In this way, you could look all up and down the street and see who else lived on the street. As my families often lived in clusters, I found this useful to find other family members that I may have missed otherwise. It also was of general interest as it showed the "atmosphere" of the area in terms of what or who else lived on the street. I can't see a way to do this on the new site, or am I missing something? You are so right about the 1881 census on family search.org- on the old style search- one could look at the neighbouring families, and this gave one a great insight in to the social aspect of the neighbourhood.
I know things have to move on,but this feature should have been retained.
Kind regards Brian .

Re: family search

I really dislike the new format and sent an email begging for the return of the old search option. They replied with instructions on how to use the new format so I don't expect they will be reverting back any time soon!!

I must agree with you,I found the old version- very user friendly, and a great starting point for many searches.
Kind regards Brian.

I also agree the old site was much better.

Re: family search

I will miss being able to look up and down the street also.
There's something else I miss from the old family search that i've not found on the new site.
I found it very useful to be able to put in parents names and get a list of all the children born to that family.
When the 1911 cencus revealed total number of children born and total number that died I've found those children in this way.
I'll wait eagerly for someone to point out some brilliant "new" feature that no other site has.
