Interestingly there is a marriage of William Sanderson to mary Stopham in Sheffield 1848. I wonder if this could be the registrar missing hearing or misreading. Could be worth looking into that.

According to the CD produced by S&DFHS William and Mary married at what is now the Cathedral and on that index it says STOPHAM for the surname (just looked in case the GRO had mis indexed it!!!!) john

Its always best to check out the information as the Ancestry trees can be wrong but it gives you a
starting block.

The 1871 census- peice 4687,folio 84,page 15,would seem to support this.
And the occupations of father and son are the same also.

Hi,

She is Stopani. This is a common mistake with the GRO. It took me years to find her mother's death because of this.

Hi,

What I know for sure is Mary Stopani and William Sanderson are the people on the GRO this is supported by the baptism of Clara Sanderson on this site.

They had several children one of whom is Henry born 1852 which would seem to correspond to a birth on freebmd. Also on freebmd is a Henry born 1853.

On all the census returns the Henry born to William and Mary is listed as born 1852 and the Henry born to Henry and Eliza is listed as born 1853.

So I just want to be sure I have the correct Henry in my tree.

I suppose I found it of interest that on the 1871,the other Henry Sanderson - parents Henry and Eliza Taylor had the same occupation as his father,and the same one as your Henry sanderson on the 1881

Linsey, Since you know the parents of Henry that you are interested in is William and Mary Stopanni, why not send a very nice email to Sheffield Register office with the quarters and years of births for the Henry and ask them if they would mind checking both records to see which one has the correct parents and you will then be able to order the correct certificate. They have normally been very good when I have made enquiries regarding certificates in the past. John

The marriage certificate of Henry Sanderson and Annie Roberts should give you the correct father of Henry.
