I have found with looking through old newspapers that an ancestor of mine had £30 shares in Sheffield Music Hall Co. and £5 in Botanical Gardens.

Can anybody point me in what direction I can go to try and find out more. Perhaps their name in a book saying they held shares, maybe a signature.

My ancestor died in 1892 and the entry in the newspaper was advertising an auction for the sale of her property.

Did the Music Hall Co. deal with several venues or one in particular.

Any advice on this would be much appreciated.

Hi Betty, it looks as though the Sheffield Music Hall Company was on Surrey Street opposite the Central Library. There was some connection with Freemasonry and I believe it is now a Bar on the ground floor. I found this by Googling Sheffield Music Hall Company.
