Harvey J. aka Arvah, Ibbotson (B:abt. 1827/8, Sheffield, Eng. bp Saint Peter Cathedral, Sheffield, D: 1880 Philadelphia, PA). Parents listed as James Ibbotson and Jane. There was a James Ibbotson bp in same church on 8-1-1802, s/o Henry and Hannah. On Harvey's brother Arthur did not find a baptism but his death cert. says he was born 1830 and he died 1896 in Philadelphia, PA.
1841C, Sheffield, Sheffield North, Yorkshire: Hannah (6), Jane (40), William (20), Arvah (13), Arthur (11), Rose (9), William Smith (20). Believe this is Harvey and his brother Arthur who came to America. Was Jane in house their mother and Hannah their grandmother?
This information from Church of Latter Day Saints
Just guessing now. Want to confirm parents for Harvey and Arthur and who is Henry and Hannah?
To give you an extra helping hand if you move over to the Parish Records to your left. Then enter just Ibbotson followed by the fathers name of James..mothers name Jane.
It will pull up four children with dates of birth and their baptisms.
I believe the census taker on the 41 census wasn't hearing very well and had Harvey down as Arvah.
The 41 census reads as follows.Piece # 1335/1 46a.
148 Broad Lane. Sheffield North.
Hannah aged 60 no occupation and all born in Yorkshire.
Jane aged 40
William aged 20 File Smith
Arvah aged 13
Arthur aged 11
Rose aged 9
Wm smith 20 File Cutter.
Which ties in with most of your findings.
I believe this is the marriage of
James Ibbotson and Jane Smith
14th Feb 1825 at Ecclesfield.
which would tie in the Wm Smith on the '41 census.
Jane looks to have been married prior to James and I wonder if William Ibbotson aged 20 is a child from a first marriage of James also.
As you have suggested i would suspect that Hannah aged 60+
on the '41 census is indeed James mother. BUT... the only one I have found married to a Henry was back in 1783 which I believe is too early.
Well thats my 2centsworth.... I am sure others will either disagree or agree with my findings. LOL.
