Rebecca Warburton

This maybe another query for Sue S.if she would'nt mind. For some years now i've been looking for the death of Rebecca and Thomas Warburton. Both born abt 1794-97.I know they married on the 20th of April 1815 at Sheffield Parish Church.Three of their children's baptism's are on here. The last recorded child being Mary Warburton bapt-27th March 1825.I've checked on 1841 Census and Rebecca does not appear, so think she died sometime before this. It's possible that Thomas re-married but not sure as there are three entries for Thomas aged 50yrs,but i can't match any children to him.
So if any kind person could find the death of Rebecca I can work from there. Thanks

Re: Rebecca Warburton

Hi Nannyfox
I have looked through the Churchyard burial CD and cannot find a Rebecca Warburton. Hopefully, someone else can find her.
Regards
Sue

Re: Rebecca Warburton

I can think of a number of reasons she isn't listed in a C of E Churchyard........

But what I would do is check what occupation you have for Thomas?
and then see what you can see on the '41 census.

What was Rebecca's maiden name and where was she brought up.

Do you know where her parents are buried??

Regards.

Re: Rebecca Warburton

Is it possible that Thomas could have died and Rebecca have remarried prior to 1841 and hence that is the reason that you can't find her on the 1841 census and her death. John

Re: Rebecca Warburton

Hi Nanny,

Have a look at our 1841 census index.....

Thomas Warburton aged 50 Piece 1329/3 13a
He is a cutler which matches Mary's baptismal record on our site.

There is also a 15 yr old Mary in Brightside Workhouse.

No mention of Rebecca.......

Re: Rebecca Warburton

Well found Elaine, that proves my earlier posting can be thrown in the bin!!!!!!!! John

Re: Rebecca Warburton

Hey up John. I could be wrong also.

Up to Nanny now to give us his occupation??

Elaine.

Spoke too soon................

John if you look back at the original info about Thomas & Mary

I dont think we have the right chap.

If Nannie's Thomas died in 1891 aged 72 that would make him born 1819...... So the marriage in 1815 was certainly not him.

Arrrgh Nanny where ever your hiding can you give more info please........

Re: Rebecca Warburton

Elaine, just had a look at the Parish Record on FMP and in St Peter and St Paul's PC in 1833 there is a burial of a Thomas Warburton aged 56 (b 1777) what if therefore if he married in 1815 as nannyfaox says but it was his second marriage and she was going on the fact that his birth year was 1794 etc due to her thinking it was his first marriage what do you think? John

Re: Rebecca Warburton

Hi John,

I would say yes it sounds plausible except that Thomas is a scissor smith...on that death.

I think we have to wait for Nanny to fill us in a little more.
If Nanny doesn't have anymore info on him I think we need info that has been checked and is known to be correct with a previous
generation.Then start going back.

Elaine in Ottawa.

PS That marriage in 1815 was between Thomas Warburton and Rebecca Leaver.

Re: Rebecca Warburton

Hi,All,
Firstly an apology for taking so long to answer. My weekend with the Grandkids!
To Sue S.Thanks for looking anyway.
To Elaine and John S.also thanks for the input so far.I shall now try to clarify the information I have to date:
Thomas's occupation was Cutler, and as Elaine states Rebecca's maiden name Leaver.Have so far not been able to verify where she was born. There are a couple of possibles on the IGI,mainly in Nottingham, although noticed a few for Lancashire too!
The Thomas who died in 1891 is the son of Thomas and Rebecca. He was born 1818 in Sheffield.
It is a possibility as John says that Rebecca could have re-married and that's why we can't find her.So will have a look for that.
I did find on IGI two possible baptisms for Thomas;
1-25 jan 1787-Queen St.Independant or Congregational,Sheffield.
2-20 Mar 1791-Sheffield Parish Church.
I've had a disaster with my Family History File as it appears to have been"damaged"so am now reliant on my notes to a degree, although nothing seems to be missing I can no longer add to it.
I hope this little I can give you will be helpful and stop me becoming even more Loopy!lol.
Thanks again.

Re: Rebecca Warburton

Elaine, since Nannyfox knows when they married (Thomas and Rebecca) do you think it is worth getting a copy of the actual document. I am just wondering if the names of the witnesses (or the people the marriage took place in the pressence of) might give us a clue John

Re: Rebecca Warburton

Thanks,Elaine, know you all love a challenge!

**********************************************************

I would say that might be worth while

Or anyone going to the Archives would probably find the marriage under.....Book N/page 183/ Entry 548.
For Thomas Warburton
Rebecca Leaver.
April 20th 1815.

Fingers crossed but usually there wasn't much entered.

From the 1841 census we know that Thomas was at least 50 and could have been 54..but...

Ann who I presume is his sister in law is 44 and nephew Samuel is 18 so the enumerator isn't lowering the adults ages down to the nearest 0 or 5...... So from that observation I would say Thomas was born in 1791.

And Nanny has a baptism for that chap.

So the ball once again is in Nanny's court.

Re: Rebecca Warburton

Are your Warburtons related to William born 1809 Sheffield Married Mary ?.

Re: Rebecca Warburton

Hi Audrey,
As far as i'm aware, the William married to Ann on 1841 Census can't at the present time be confirmed as brother to my Thomas.Been trying to confirm births/baptism but getting nowhere! Can't find a marriage of a William Warburton to an Ann ?and indeed cannot find a birth for William with parents Thomas and Rebecca. (I think!tried so many permutations I think I've totally lost the plot).
I did find a death of an Ann Warburton(widow,aged 71),b<1795>-died at 38 Marshall St.Buried jun 5 1864,Burngreave.Plot owner Samuel Warburton.He is later buried here aged 60-a spring-knife cutler.Died at Southey Green.He would be Ann's son.(1841 census).Can't find a death for William though.
So have still to find deaths of Thomas Warburton b<1791>,Rebecca Warburton,b<1791>and now William b<1796>.Help!

Re: Rebecca Warburton

Hi Nanny,

Just had another think.... re your Warburton's.

More than I would have thought in the Sheffield area.

I was looking at the CD from S&DFHS of the Parish Churches and
a few other burial grounds.

There are a number of Thomas Warburton's listed so it might be worth and early Xmas present to yourself to sit and ponder which one he could be. You know his history better than we do.

It's so hard when there are so many called the same name and born about the same time.

Not that many burial grounds if he died not long after 1815.
Thats how I would try and eliminate which one he isn't.

Hope this might help.
