followup from dec 2011 Re Robert Whitaker parents b.1791 Blyth

Dec. 2011 John S, found a birth for Robert Whitaker in Blyth, Nottinghamshire. Parents were Cornelius and Sarah. I found a birth for Cornelius in 1774 at Cathedral Saint Peter. Cornelius would have been only 17 years when this Cornelius was born.
I have since found a Cornelius b. 11/09/1768 at I believe Blyth. It does have a place STYRRUP by the side.
I had a long list of Whitaker names sent to me, I am unable to check this Cornelius Whitaker, anyone able to help please?
Thanks Barry

Barry.

Whites directory 1853

Harworth Parish is situated at the western verge of the county, betwixt Blyth and Tickhill, and contains upwards of 7,000 acres of land and 1,198 inhabitants, although those who live in Styrrup and Oldcoates are all returned with Blyth parish.

Styrrup lies east of Oldcoates, and includes a village of its own name and the hamlet of Norney, which forms the northern suburb of Blyth, but the greater part is in the township of Styrrup.

A good place to find out where a parish is placed is:

Barry, I have looked on my Baptism Disk and found the Cornelius Whitaker baptised 11 Sep 1768 unfortunately it does not give any names for father or mother. If i search for Whitaker baptisms in 1768 + or - ten years baptised a Bltyh if gives three other people Ann Bap 23 Apr 1768 living at Norney - no parents details. mary Bap 10 Oct 1768 living at Oldcotes and James Bap 24 Sep 1770 living at Oldcotes, parents of James and Mary were called John and Mary. Hope this helps.

Barry,

Just sent you an e-mail with a copy of Robert's baptism.

Re: followup from dec 2011 Re Robert Whitaker parents b.1791 Blyth

Linda Received the record, thank you.
The Cornelius for 1774 was baptised at Cathedral St Peter, where almost all the family attended, while the Cornelius 1768 was baptised in Blyth where Robert was Baptised.
The record of Roberts baptism had parents of Cornelius and Sarah, now I am even more confused as to which Cornelius 1774 or Cornelius of 1768 to use.
Would someone make a choice for me ???
Thanks Barry

I don't think that anyone can make a choice for you, if you want to connect with the correct family then before 1837 you need to be looking at all the siblings and the naming patterns.

Did they leave any wills which could help to sort them out. I would be looking at the parish registers for Blyth and anything else that is available for that parish (parish chest for instance)
