Re: Water in Gas Tank

Old Rocker
someone in the know
put a bottle of rubbin alcahol in the tank the same kind in med cabinet try not use the green though works lot better than drygas

DON'T use "rubbin alcahol" in your gas tank! Most rubbing alcohol is 30% water to begin with.

The ethanol in gasoline is good for the environment, but it attracts water like a sponge. The only thing you can do this time of year is keep your gas tank as full a possible to cut down on condensation and buy gas that doesn't have ethanol in it, if you can find it.
old rocker is right also for boat owners or others who have fiberglass tanks it will slowly eat away at the finish inside the tank and eventually clog up the carb on your tank its been a big issue here in florida.dry gas put in every time you get gas will help but if you already haave a good bit in your system you may have to change filters and drain your tank and lines to clean it.

Re: Water in Gas Tank

Be carefull where you buy gas,one of the stations close to me has water in there gas and diesel..I always add 1 can of dry gas every other fill up..

Re: Water in Gas Tank

The best is pure isopropyl alcohol, it is much superior to the methanol which is used in the cheaper dry gas products. The key to it's usage is to use it when the days are slightly warm and the nights cold as this is when condensation is likely to form inside the fuel tank. Also by keeping the fuel tanks more full the surface area for the condensation to form is reduced thereby reducing the water vapor liquids in the fuel. When already frozen, lines need to be thawed in a garage. Additionally, a 1/4 cup of acetone enhances the miscibility of the fuel mixture and is harmless to the lines and injectors or carburetor. Most auto parts carry acetone as a painting thinner as does Wal-Mart.
