Bath was named for The Jefferson Pools. They were once called The Warm Springs Pools. They are soothing mineral waters that come from the underground springs.
Bath County was first settled in 1740's; it was once part of Augusta County. The name: Bath was adopted because its first settlers arrived from Scotland and Ireland, England by way of Pennsylvania. In particular Bath, England an ancient Roman city of Spas and Baths. The Warm Springs Pools certainly influence this naming, but so did the Hot Springs, Healing Springs and many others.
