What's the deal with NCIC?

Just got a report that county dispatch is refusing to transfer the Marlinton Town's Cop's request for license run because the town cop is not certified. The academy is a requirement of certification. What's going on?

Re: What's the deal with NCIC?

Has the town cop been to the academy?? Maybe he is not certified??

Re: What's the deal with NCIC?

It doesnt matter if he is certified or not, if the officer is employeed by an agency that is recognized through the Wv State Police Weapons System then he can run Drivers license or whatever he wants to run, as well as enter stolen property or wanted persons into the NCIC data base. The town officer is employeed by an agency and therfore has the authority to do these things..

Re: What's the deal with NCIC?

Ask Bill,or Alven they could tell you? But I think the answer is NO .

Re: What's the deal with NCIC?

Also the town cop work 4 the town? Not the county? He likes to ride with 706,707,708, and 709. If he on a stop he has to have ask the county cop to ask 911 to do a ncic check.

Re: What's the deal with NCIC?

i dont know what the protocol is for an officer not through the academy to request an ncic check. however if he runs it or has to ask one of the county units to run it for him it does show he is performing the duties he is hired for and is checking the make sure that a person is not wanted so i say regardless of who calls his check in at least he is doing his job.

Re: What's the deal with NCIC?

TO: hmm

Good point !!

Re: What's the deal with NCIC?

So how come 911 tells him NO? Because he IS NOT certified? And no the town is not certified also. Do your homework? I ask Bill, and Alvon. They say him,or the town is not certified.

Re: What's the deal with NCIC?

jab-o the town has to be recognized to hire a police officer. To hire a police officer the have to have the authority through the state to do so. IDIOTS

Re: What's the deal with NCIC?

A town may be recognized, and have an agreement with who ever is in control of NCIC, but the officer that requested the information has to have their own certification, not just any one can be given a printout and be able to use and understand the information. even the dispatchers had to go to charleston for a week and get certified, just to run the equipment, and if you call them and ask them to run someone's tag is on your property, they have to give it to a certified officer and have them run it. When lee tiney was on duty, he had certification, josh vaughn does not, if he was to run something right now and give a ticket, it can be fought in court because he has no certification. Just because the town is recognized, does that mean that mayor driscoll can give a speeding ticket? nope

Re: What's the deal with NCIC?

As long as the city of marlinton has an ORI with the West Virginia State Police then he can run things on the system as long as he is on a traffic stop or doing a criminal investigation. Norman you should look into this because that falls under hendring the safety of a police officer. Someone look into this, it could turn out to get someone hurt

Re: What's the deal with NCIC?

TO WHATEVER- HE IS NEVER IN TOWN TO DO A STOP? HE IS ALWAYS RUNNING AROUND WITH THE COUNTY PIGS

Re: What's the deal with NCIC?

pigs? how polite of you. guess that shows how much respect u have for the law enforcement community. and how do u know he "is always" with the deputies. do u have some sort of fancied up tracking system on him? if u do own such a device im pretty sure you could make countless dollars with it.

Re: What's the deal with NCIC?

Looks like The Town of Marlinton would arrange for this person to take the big step and go to the school to become a Police Officer, and maybe he could get the info. he is looking for.Just because they hired him to be a Cop doesn't mean he is one. There has to be an opening in the academy before he can go. You can just walk in and start classes when you want -- it's alot like a college.
