THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Tongue exercise strengthens Chords?

"Professor Feuchtinger discovered that there is one single, very special muscle in the human body which could improve voice production more than anything else. This, he found, was the very secret to all voice improvement!

The discovery of the vital role of the hyo-glossus muscle in singing, was Professor Feuchtinger’s most unique discovery and proved to be the key which would unlock perfect voice to thousands of his students."

____

"Some research has shown that the best exercises for your vocal chords are tongue related. A french scientist believes that the key to improving the strength of your vocal chords, and voice, are exercises designed to strengthen a little known muscle in the tongue called the hyo-glossus. To begin these exercises you must first learn to totally relax the tongue. It must be able to lie completely flat in your mouth. Then you need to be able to curl your tongue inward so that the two sides make a groove down the middle. It is this contraction of the tongues muscles through these exercises that are believed to strengthen the vocal chords"

Is there truth to this?

Re: Tongue exercise strengthens Chords?

Well, I'd say this: There are probably very few singers with weak tongues.

Re: Tongue exercise strengthens Chords?

This 100% true. Could you give me your reference please? Is this an internet quote?

The tongue has a crucial role in singing. If it's to backward, it will crush the vocal cords. If it's too forward or high it will pull the vocal cords incorrectly and create unnecessary tension. You can get that relaxed/down grove/U shape with the consonants "Y" and "GN" "K".

Re: Tongue exercise strengthens Chords?

Yup, both were from the internet. I read a treastise by Feuchtinger last night. Very, very interesting.

Re: Tongue exercise strengthens Chords?

Can you post a link to the actual site please? Thanks

Re: Tongue exercise strengthens Chords?

Sure. But it doesn't go too far beyond the quote as far as solid information goes.

Here's the one (sorry it's not linked) - http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/38256/exercises_to_strengthen_your_vocal.html

I think the other one is from a forum. I was basically just clicking around. A lot of the stuff I found was for stuttering.

Re: Tongue exercise strengthens Chords?

When I'm singing I've observed myself raising my tongue as the notes get higher. Not at the front - at the very rear. Is this correct or is the tongue to lay completely flat always?

Re: Tongue exercise strengthens Chords?

You need the "U". Thanks for the link. I wish you could trace back the second one as well...

Re: Tongue exercise strengthens Chords?

Oiselle,

This is Feuchtinger's method, taught by one of his students;

There's a correct action vocal animation and I believe the quote is
in the FAQ

Re: Tongue exercise strengthens Chords?

Thanks so much

Re: Tongue exercise strengthens Chords?

I bought this program...the book and DVD...understanding the wordage gave me the worst headache on Earth!!

Still working on the exercises, but unfortunately there's a lot of room for error...so I'm not very confident most of the time...

I've heard that the muscles under your chin should be soft(Brett Manning) but this program seems to support the contraction and strengthening of those muscles.

According to the Perfect Voice Method, the hyoglossus is said to have been exercised via breastfeeding and the great singers are those who remembered that "breastfeeding action" and therefore have a developed hyoglossus, I guess some of us just forgot...lol. Now I see why Jaime has us sucking on our lower lip that was an interesting exercise that I got from RYV.

Re: Tongue exercise strengthens Chords?

Just pointing this out cuz the threads been bumped.

Theres some girl in my town named ajB haha. Weird coincidence.

Re: Tongue exercise strengthens Chords?

Has anyone else purchased this particular course that could give a review of it?

Re: Tongue exercise strengthens Chords?

Well, after going through part of the book "Perfict Voice" (which by the way says that nobody else in the wourld know how to develope a voice besides him)
I did some research myself.
I talked to a few Docters here in Israel, and one of them found for me a research done by a French Doctor, that states that there is an exercise that strengens the Hyo-Glosses, and guess what?!
Jamie brought it in RYV he just didn;t call it by the name hyo.
It's the exercise where you put the tounge on the hard palate and slowly curve it back, hold it for a few seconds, and slowly bring it back.
Hurry for Jamie!!

Re: Tongue exercise strengthens Chords?

The tongue pushups?!

Re: Tongue exercise strengthens Chords?

That sounds like the one.

Kudos to you Jaime. You really thought of everything.

Re: Tongue exercise strengthens Chords?

I am a graduate of "Perfect Voice Institute"
I know first hand about all the tongue muscles and all the other exercises Feuchtinger taught.
I know the Feuchtinger family personally.
All of you are just guessing.
The Tongue does not strenghten the vocal cords.
The Tongue merely acts on the Hyoid Bone.
The Palate also acts on the the Hyoid bone as well as on the Thyroid Cartilage.
The who action is what the course was given for.
It is not about singing or speaking but about making the total voice stronger more resonate.................... Much Much more.

Re: Tongue exercise strengthens Chords?

Well put, "Anonymous." I've never heard of Perfect Voice Institute or Feuchtinger. I learned these type of exercise from Alan Greene, who in my opinion, is the man on this subject. The goal is to build overall strength.

Re: Tongue exercise strengthens Chords?

anyway that i can get in touch with former student of freuchtinger method. i know it was anonymous. his opinion expressed b
