THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Re: Slightly Off Topic...

Find something that gives you inspiration and meditate on it..... Another thing to do is to journal your thoughts and feelings. Something happens when you write down what you are thinking about.

Re: Slightly Off Topic...

Use a notepad, portable recorder (for melodies), try to learn different song in different music styles....be open minded :).

Re: Slightly Off Topic...

I write a LOT, although not lyrics so much. I don't often have trouble putting out lots of writing because I've learned that even when I don't feel creative, all it takes is to just START WRITING.

You just sit your butt down and start spitting out whatever crap you can think of. "I like butterflys. Rainbows are nice. If Mariah Carey and Renee Flemming had a deathmatch, who would win? If Renee Flemming read this, how hard would she hit me? If I died from the impact, would I have to mingle with Mariah Carey, or would her immortal soul and mine coexist in mutual dislike?"

Then once you've got your fingers moving, you get on to the real thing you were trying to write. Anything goes--"It's so lonely here by myself, wish that I was someone else, can't keep up with all your lies, getting tangled up in mine, all the webs we tried to weave wont be the things that keep us company."

That's total crap-writing... but I can expand on it, and I can go back and work at it. It's often not so much about creating something brilliant instantly... you need to get out a rough idea and then hammer that sucker into polished gold :D.

Writing is not like singing. In singing you have to get it right -now- because you can't go back and say, "Sorry, that was bad... lets perform this again! Hey... where'd the audience go?" but in writing... you can spit something out and then go back and fix it. Who's going to know? No one! People get to see the finished product.

Good luck! I know my method isn't for everyone, but it's always helped me.
