THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Aha, today, progress is shown.

Well. I got about an hour of sleep last night, 3 a.m. to 4 a.m. My girlfriend got back from Texas the other day so she came over at around 8 a.m. I was pretty excited, so I tried some singing since the house is empty. I haven't tried singing in about a week though I've consistently practiced (I haven't updated my journal thing, I know, but I'm not slacking.)I've been, for the past week and a half, using SLS exercises to warm up for about an hour and then doing lots of sirens and transcending tone for another hour. I sang a section of a song by my favorite band right now, Protest The Hero, called "Heretics and Killers". The line that I, just a week ago, had a lot of trouble on, starts on D#4 and climaxes at a B4, before dropping back to G#4 for the final word, going from a falsetto to a dramatic full voice.

"I'm not your son so (gradually louder with each phrase from this point)why have you forSAKEEEEEN me?" the capitalized section of 'forsaken's is where the B4 is.

I was amazed. I had to sing it a few times to see if I wasn't just imaginging what I had done. But I had done it.

On an hour of sleep, I had sang a line that goes up nearly an octave, from my usual break point up to the highest I normally ever sing in full voice, with varying tension.

Tone was good too. It was kind of shakey, but it was effortless. I AM PROUD OF MYSELF. I want to get a 'karaoke' version of this song and record it.

Thank you Jaime Vendera and Brett Manning!
