THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

3 week journal

I'm going to begin practicing 5 days a week for the next 3 weeks. I've spent the past week cutting all dairy out of my diet and bringing my daily caffeine consumption down to about a liter a day, water up to two gallons. I'm taking a multivitamin every morning along with zinc after dinner.

I'm going to update a thread every day to track progress and maybe provide some useful information regarding revelations and breakthroughs, as well as to figure out when my up and down period during the month is.

Here's what I'm gonna do every day, I ask for opinions and suggestions from everybody. I am dividing into 3 segments, each an hour long:

Warm-up:
-10 minutes of stretches and massages
-10 minutes of breathing exercises
-20 minutes of resonance hums
-20 minutes of motorboats, tongue trills, and gargling

Then exercise:
-20 minutes of falsetto slide
-10 minutes of siren/vocal cord stretch
-30 minutes of transcending tone

Application:
-Spend an hour applying technique to a few songs I like singing, ie finding a part of a song I have difficulty with and working on just a small section until it sounds great and is easy, focusing and going slowly.

Then I'll spend roughly 30 minutes doing tongue trills and gargling from head into chest and inhaling mist to warm down.

Any suggestions on some other things to try would be great. This is what I've devised as being the most useful for me, but I am one of those absent minded folks that forgets things. I may be counting out a useful exercise.

Hopefully this will end up being a good learning resource and the end result ( I'll post examples once I get my recording equipment back) will be testament to how well RYV works when applied. I wish I could show you all what I sounded like 6 months ago.

Re: 3 week journal

Thank you brother, you are awesome. Let me give you some advice though on the three exercises-You want more time in full voice production, the least time in falsetto slides and somehwhere in between on the Transcending Tones. More full voice to keep the cords from drying out from all the falsetto work. Don't have to do so many hums and lip bubbles because that is your warmup routine.

PS- Make sure to cool down with some bubbles and hums afterwards.
