THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Re: How can i sing high without have to sing in head voice and falsetto?

Brett Manning from Singing Success has commented that my book Raise Your Voice, is more geared towards getting more chest resonance into the upper range. Maybe you should check it out.

Re: How can i sing high without have to sing in head voice and falsetto?

James makes a great comment. This is exactly what has happened to me and I sang that way for years, try and correct the problem now. It is quite a common problem. We all want to sing the best we can, so we land up engaging more muscles, facial muscles etc, the result we have to blow more air, the body reacts to this extra air by bracing more and more, you land up shoving more air, the end result, restrictions in your range, etc etc...

And if your like me, your stubborn so you sing that way for years, and now try and correct muscle memory, is harder than you think.

I've been doing alot of specific exercises now from Mark Baxter and BTW Jaime teaches similiar corrections. These are designed to correct these problems by singing slides with your finger on your tongue, or holding the tongue out with your fingers, doing the slides without any movement of the tongue and without any, and I mean any extra muscles, nothing on the face, no neck muscles etc. I've been doing this steady now for a couple months. What a difference!

The exercise may sound simple but it's designed to make you sound bad, It is almost a waste of time, I have learned now to vocalize the best you can, all your doing is emphazing bad technique. These exercises expose whereever you are putting strain, or engaging muscles just to hit the pitch, over time our body is able to correct the right amount of air pressure, the muscles are re-trained and you can sing and experience release.

So James hit it right on the mark, nice explanation
