THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

A Sincere "Thank You" to Jaime!

Let me just say that I have wanted to sing my entire life but never had the tools to do it. As something I thought only came naturally, I didn't persue it much...instead I turned to playing guitar (for 25 years). However, after getting RYV and working at it for a month now, I realize that I can do some cool sh*t that I could never do before and much like guitar, I now know that is takes coordination, hard work, muscle development and patience. I am so happy I found your site, Jaime. Thanks a million for all the work you have done and your willingness to let us learn from you!

Does anyone else drive around doing the "siren" with windows open and have people stare? It's awesome!

Rock!

Re: A Sincere "Thank You" to Jaime!

Yeah I've gotten a few looks from a Siren. I was even told to stop outside of a hostpital beacuas I sounded like an ambulance and I was scaring the patients ;)

Re: A Sincere "Thank You" to Jaime!

I hate driving and singing anything high. With the way your legs go, I find it hard to get support and I just burn my voice out :(

Re: A Sincere "Thank You" to Jaime!

I agree, Doug!

Re: A Sincere "Thank You" to Jaime!

Wow, no kidding? I wonder if this is a technique I should avoid....Although I see Jaime doing it in the videos without a problem. I know proper posture is best, but with limited time for practice, I find myself doing most my excercises (not breathing workouts!) in the car. BTW - the videos bring all the book lessons and MP3's to life! if anyone has not seen them you must It is very inspiring to see the real lessons happen.

Thanks for the feedback!

Chris

I drive and practice all the time with no problem. You can do it safely.

Re: A Sincere "Thank You" to Jaime!

Maybe I need to change the way I sit in the car.

Re: A Sincere "Thank You" to Jaime!

If you hunch over in the car, you're not going to be breathing correctly. Relax and keep your upper back supported, your ribs expanded (though you only really want to expand them on lower notes, the breath will be compressed and tighter if you do not open the ribcage which can be useful singing higher at the possible expense of some chest resonance), and you will be able to do them wherever you want.
