THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Re: The Bullfrog exercise Q

Thanx Matt,

I appreciate your advice. I'm nor obsessing, it's just I want to make shure my technique is up to scratch before I start singing songs. It's all about muscle memory, remember? So, at the moment, whenever I actually sing, I tend to resort to the bad habits I had.

Cheers.

Re: The Bullfrog exercise Q

Don't worry. ALL singers obsess ;) THat's our problem. That's why it is a good idea to promote this board to your friends, so that singers have a place to talk to other singers for advice, like Matt. He always gives great advice!Don't worry, you'll discouver your voice. Just have fun with it!

Re: The Bullfrog exercise Q

The one thing I've come to realize is that Singing requires a complete lack of any sense of shame. I'm completely serious about this. You literally have to be willing to get on stage in front of a ton of people and look like a fool, yet that the same time - in private - or off stage - you're totally obsessing over everything because you don't want to screw up when you're singing, and have people hear it.

Before I began taking singing seriously - I never dreamed how much practice it really does take to train your voice. As a drummer - I never worried about practice as much as I do with my voice. And of course, I have driven everyone around me completely nuts. One of my friends saw me doing the bullfrog one day and she goes, "Have you lost your freaking mind? It looks like you've developed some kind of nervous condition!"

Then I explained to her what I was doing - and she still thought it was crazy. Thank God she didn't hear me vocalizing - then she would think I was crazy.
