THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Re: "The Wall" (and I ain't talking about Pink Floyd)

You need to practice practice practice. Don't let the sensation slip forward, and make sure your laryx isn't disappearing up into your throat. You must keep the voice placement in the soft palate with a relaxed larynx, with soem other stuff from the book that I'm sure you knoe about ;)

Re: "The Wall" (and I ain't talking about Pink Floyd)

Thanks man. Will do.

Quick question. I noticed the revised version of RYV references some audio examples that are currently not on the web site such as the Vocal Fry and the Ginuea Pig.

I know that you're a busy man, but any plans to add some of that stuff?

Thanks,

Dave

Re: "The Wall" (and I ain't talking about Pink Floyd)

Yeah I will be adding them. I feel so ashamed but I haven't has a chance to sit down and do them. It's crazy around here. I am working on some big stuff with some big names, and I have a show in LA in about 10 days, and another in Paris very soon. So, I promise they will eventually be added. I do apologize.

Jaime:

No worries. Your accessability and candor make it clear that you love what you do. I was just curious.

Now, you should go and "rock".

Re: "The Wall" (and I ain't talking about Pink Floyd)

Oh, when you said "and I ain't talking about Pink Floyd" I thought surely then you must be referring to the song which is a tour de force of vocal styling: The Wall" by Kansas (from Leftoverture) This is one of those recordings that captured a performance that could not possibly be improved. Steve Walsh at his absolute best! To this day I get chills every time I listen, and if I try and sing it I sometimes get choked up with emotion. The way the lyrics and the vocal lines work together is simply transcedental.

Sorry, to get off topic. :)

Re: "The Wall" (and I ain't talking about Pink Floyd)

Paul,
That's cool. I LOVE Steve Walsh. I don't know what happened to his voice though. From the sound if it, I think he developed nodes, but won't say for sure. I bought his solo CD a few years ago, and although it was cool, just not the same as the late 70's and early 80's albums.
