THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Re: Great Book.

David,
Thanks for being a satisfied customer ;) You can definitely regain all of those upper notes. If you can hit them in falsetto, you can do it in full voice. As far as the whistle voice, that's pretty much all you really need to know. There is no big secret. But, what will help, is when I finally get all of the Advanced Techniques chapter audio files finished. There are several exercises that need the audio demonstrations to help you out. I will be adding a free lesson on the whistle voice soon from another vocal coach. Plus, download the 2 instructional videos from the Members section. On the Josh Morrison video at around 14:30, I demonstrate five octaves by hitting 6 diffent A pitches, with the top pitch being an A above Soprano A, in whistle voice. It just shows you how easy it can be ;)

Peace,

JV

Jaime:

I'm absolutely looking forward to the explanation on the "whistle" voice. I did check out the instuction video, which elicited a hearty G** D***. You were so non-chalant about it. That was GREAT! I felt your student's awe.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to further experimenting with the exercises and techniques offered in the book. I know they will take time and patience to master. I'm also looking forward to the challenge of applying all of this to real songs.

On that topic, what is your recommendation on student's singing old tunes in which they had been using an improper technique. I thought I'd ask since so much of this process seems to involve muscle memory and unconscious thought.

Re: Great Book.

Nothing wrong with doing any song...Just use the right technique. Take Micahel Bolton for example. Awesome voice, but such horrible technique. But he makes up for it in passion. Try to steer away from shouting and excess breath if you tackle one one of Michael's songs. You'll know what is right. When I was singing songs like ACDC's Back In Black, I still screamed in a manner very similar to Bryan Johnson, but I focused the sound up into my soft palate and didn't let that gravelly sound slip down into my throat. There are ways to conquer all songs;)
