THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Re: Trouble with the Audio Files

You want to hit that F#??? DId you also buy Raise Your Voice? It has the keys for hitting all those high notes, and it has the Members section to back it up, with exercises, audio files and instructional videos. As well as new instructional videos coming soon.

Re: Trouble with the Audio Files

Yes, I bought them both together.

I've been taking voice lessons for over a year, but I've only made mediocre progress so far, and I've felt so trapped because I've got a baritonal quality to my voice, but can't sing high enough to utilize it. I’ve sailed up to the G4 multiple times, but I can never hang on to it, and I can never hit it outside of my voice lessons. At home my absolute top note is the E4, and that’s a major pull.

Plus I've been dying to switch to the tenor section of my church's choir for two years now (we don't have any good tenors, and I love the tenor line in most of the music we do). That's not going to happen till I've got at least a nice, relaxed A4, I'm sure.

I have to say I think you're right about Raise Your Voice being the best book out there, Jaime. I've read several books on singing before now, and discussed it with my voice teacher, but till I did the rubberband example I never understood what the hell anyone was talking about when they said "zip up the vocal cords," or "Head Voice is just moving past the point of maximum pull."

I'm definitely going to be reviewing the book on Amazon (and I've already gotten a friend interested in buying it, I think) but I'd like to give myself a month or two so I can make some progress and then say that the book has helped me to become a better technical singer rather than that it's just increased my knowledge of how the voice works.

Re: Trouble with the Audio Files

The main thing to do, is to get a pitchwheel and do the exercises over and over and over and over and again and again and again and again. I am talking about the three main exercises from RYV. You'll get it:)
