THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Re: Oh my god, I can access whistle while exhaling.

Hey, no problem. I've already submitted a review. I seriously NEVER benefited as much from even face-to-face instruction than I did from reading on the siren and the very suggestion of 'zipping' the vocal cords. I have been singing for nearly 5 years now and I guess this is just what I needed to start increasing my range. I normally break up at E4 and have no head voice. I just didn't have the coordination. I got all the way to G4 comfortably today. I went through the vocal stress release exercises, did the siren, and after about 5 hours did the transcending exercise. That very small amount of practice did the trick. Only 5 semitones to go and I can sing tenor. Awesome.

I saearthat I'm not a cross-namer, I don't know how that happened :) I remember when i finally hit G4 in full voice, which was back in 1993. It really freaked me out. My guide at that time was a teacher named Thomas Appell, who wrote a great book called "Can You Sing A High C Without Straining" In fact I actuall6y chose NOT to order his book and picked some video that was terrible. Then I thought to myself that I should order his book. After watching that video again, I thought to myself, "I could do this!" And then the seed for Raise Your Voice was planted, although it took me 7 more years to begin writing it:)
