THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Jaime's mixed voice:

I'm curious to your own singing technique (although you might teach a different technique in your book).

When singing in mixed and headvoice, do you too stick to SLS or you don't care?

If you do stick to SLS, that means you would minimize all vocal weight as much as possible to attain SLS, or do you actually do SLS but gradually minimizing vocal weight as you go up from E4 until you hit headvoice?

Last question, when you say you transition from E4 (I know you do), do you actually start at E4, or do you mean that's where your true mixed voice kicks in and that you actually start to feel a different sensation a few notes before E4?

These questions are directed to your singing, not your students btw. Tah.

Thanks, Mr.WonderPonder.

Re: Jaime's mixed voice:

I don't practice SLS, although I respect the method. when I say that I transc end at E4, I mean that the vocal cords are starting to "zip" together at that note. The resonance is moving from mainly chest into the throat area. I do minimalize the way by thinking of the voice like a triangle-wide on the bottom and becoming thinner towards the top. But, I can add as much weight as I like, depending upon the song.

Re: Re: Jaime's mixed voice:

Ah I see. I thought you had a really high chest voice incomparison to a normal person. Hehe, my bad.

Initially I didn't think you would reply back, I thought you did a runner on me! :)

Re: Re: Re: Jaime's mixed voice:

I try to reply to everyone, but, with my busy schedule, it sometimes takes me awhile. My voice is low/mid-rangy. I used to break on the typical E4.
