THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Re: Re: Re: Top 5 of All Time?...

Oh man, I never heard that about Ray West. I loved Spread Eagle. I know that Ray was in a band called Girls Of Porn several years ago. I hope that you are wrong about his death. I'd have to say that my top 5 singers are Jim Gillette, Micheall Matijevic, Tony Harnell, Steve Perry, and Lenny Wolf. Although I like so **** many! I have to mention Marq Torien, Ray Gillen, Halford, Tyler, Tate, Illous, Plant,etc... I also like newer singers like Sahaj Ticotin, Myles Kennedy, and the singers from Edguy and Primal Fear.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Top 5 of All Time?...

I agree with you there bro. Tobias Sammett and Ralf Scheepers are ******* awesome singers. They have head voice ranges up at nearly the soprano high c mark.

Re: Top 5 of All Time?...

what about prince ?

Re: Top 5 of All Time?...

What about..? Heis just GREAT one of the BEST!!!

Re: Top 5 of All Time?...

Someone else posted a similar message a while back, but as long as we're talking STRICTLY rock singers, they are as follows:

1. Maynard James Keenan of TOOL. He is my all-time favorite singer, and can locute emotion like no one else.

2. I guess I could feasibly list Jeff Buckley on here, even though he was able to do any kind of music. His voice is so outta-this-world, and incredibly unique. He will be missed.

3. Brent Smith of Shinedown- I'm not a huge fan of theirs, but the man's got power behind his voice. Also, I, like Mr. Smith, am from Knoxville, TN. We're not ALL rednecks down here, I promise!!!

4. Robert Plant doesn't even necessarily have the greatest voice in the world, but it works perfectly for Zep's music. Also, my favorite song of theirs isn't even really a rock song. (or an original) It's "Since I've Been Lovin' You." Very bluesy...

5. Good ol' Freddy Mercury...Some of Queen's music can be so annoying, but the rest is fantastic! I know it's very cliche' but Rhapsody will always be my favorite of theirs.

Re: Top 5 of All Time?...

1.Cobb Knobbler
2.Sqiggy(from laverne and shirley)
3.Peter Brady
4.Danny Partridge
5.William Shatner

In EXACTLY that order dogs......

Re: Top 5 of All Time?...

I don't listen to rock very often.

But I gotta say...

1. Karen Carpenter.

Why? Why, you might ask, when she has nothing at -all- to do with rock?

Because her vocal cords were the holy GRAIL of vocalism.

So there. >.<

Re: Top 5 of All Time?...

Karen Carpenter had a beautiful voice. Just because this is a rock oriented site, doesn't mean that a true singer wouldn't appreciate great vocalists from any style;) I love singers like Chrstopher Cross, George Michael, Simon Lebon, Melvin Riley(Ready For The World) and El' Debarge.

Re: Top 5 of All Time?...

Right on Jaime, George Michael is an amazing singer, he's incredibly underrated. Most people remember what he does in public restrooms more than what he does with his voice.

Re: Top 5 of All Time?...

I think that he would have been the only choice to use for a Queen reunion. I think Paul Rodgers is an exceptional vocalist, but I believe George Michael has more of the vocal characteristics of Mercury, than Rodgers does.

Re: Top 5 of All Time?...

Absolutely. George Michael is the only person I've ever heard who can vocally do justice to Freddie. Also, his voice has seemed to hold up over the years more than Paul's. I've read stuff where the rest of Queen says they weren't looking for someone to actually replace Freddie. I mean, it's clear that Paul Rodgers sounds nothing like Freddie, and I guess that's the kind of thing they were looking for.

I would've loved to hear George Michael do it though. His version of Somebody to Love at the Freddie tribute concert was really spot on.
