THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Cord Closure

Hey all,

Even though my support seems fine, I still somehow feel like I let out more air than I should. If I clench my cords shut, though, then the air is minimized. Does Jaime want you to do this? Is this what's supposed to happen when you're breathing and supporting correctly?

Re: Cord Closure

From my experience you really shouldnt clench your cords or anything in your thorat except when you are doing what is called zipping but even that shouldnt be forced or too much clenching.About too much air coming out you should really focus on inhalation sensation you may not feel it right away or even a few months from now on but once you get hang of it its really really really helpfull you just need to have that visual picture and try to "trick" your brain into thinking that you are inhaling instead of exhaling which will minimize the air you are realising, also keep your ribs expanded for as long as you can because that goes hand in hand whit inhalation sensation. If this inhalation sensation thing really isnt working for you then try to imagine that you are holding your air back, but not like grunting while holding air and sounding like old gramps...just keep your throat relaxed(not tottaly relaxed but keeping it away from unnecessary tension).Or another visualisation that i heard voice coaches use is talking under the water but use whatever makes most sense to you.Just remember in singing nothing should be too forced so probably if you feel like you need to clench something or strain or use too much force to do it then you are doing it wrong. But dont sweat it just practice it will all come together.
