THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Vocal Stress Release videos?

Hey all!

My name is John Kyle and I'm a singer/songwriter and a new VVVA student! Glad to be here with you and ready to get serious about my singing!

I'm digging through the Week One material. I can't find where the videos are that show how to do the Vocal Stress Release exercises. Can someone point me to them?

Thanks very much!

- John

Re: Vocal Stress Release videos?

Hi John,

Welcome to the VVA.
I just responded to a similar post, so I'm going to copy/paste what I said there. (the same advice applies)

First off, have you read Raise Your Voice?
I know you're looking for videos, but it is very important to read.
Before the VVA existed, I bought Raise Your Voice (which is now free for members), and it was one of the best investments I ever made for my voice.

If you have read it, re-read Raise Your Voice.
Pay extra attention to the tension release areas.
This includes the "Learning to breathe again" section near the beginning on page 19 (Chapter 1).

Next, go to the Vocal Stress Release section (Chapter 3), page 204.
Follow those exercises, and follow the video lessons.

DO NOT SKIP re-reading "Learning to breathe again." That is a core foundation and breathing should always be worked on. I've been practicing for years, and I still perform breathing exercises daily. There is always room for improvement, and the benefits add-up fast!

Reduction in stress and tension will gradually improve.
Don't worry if you aren't where you want to be yet.
It takes practice, and time, but you'll get there

Awesome, thanks Paul and Jaime!
