Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

LOL gruemanticus that's an awesome idea!!!!!!!!!!

here's another idea:
warm up the voice cleanly and then start working your grit in your comfrotable range. this is usually in the mid-upper chest range.

The reason why it's easier up top is because there's more pressure and higher notes require less air and when you produce too much air with grit there's a higher chance you'll dry out your throat and hurt yourself.

So get the upper range working first then start taking it down lower little by little

Now here's the key:

DON'T BE TOO EAGER TO GET HEAPS OF GRIT. just take what yuo can get!!!

people get a little grit then they get greedy and try to take more and more and end up pushing and hurting themselves.

grit is something that SEASONS ITSELF OVER TIME.

thanks Phill and Gruemanticus for quick reply. Yesterday night I found that if I apply less air and do it with less power I get the rumbling sound. but if i get louder I loose the rumbling. so it looks like I should be developing the power and start lightly with voice first. There is one funny thing I found if I do it reversely (I mean when making a grit while breathing in)my voice perfectly cracks without hurting and at the bottom it sounds like from horror movie.

OK, after 10 sessions and after longer disease which took 2 weeks to get to normal I got back on track and finally have cut through that gritty sound. And yes it sounded like scraching car :D After other sessions I started to notice minigains in producing ocassional grit during singing. I realized that many people are probably afraid of getting on grit excerises. When training high I use to push hard to cut deeper and then sometimes end up with a blowing head for couple of seconds.:D I found it paradoxical that making Yee while producing gritty sound is easier than Yaa. I hope that after 100- 200 sessions I get what I have wanted.
