THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

One year with RYV

Hello fellow singers,

I wanted to share a brief reflection with you all: it's been one year today since I got "Raise your voice" and I can say, in all honesty, that my singing has improved a lot. As a self-critique, though, it's also embarrassing for me to admit that I haven't used the tools to its full potential after one whole year. What I got was not only the RYV book, but a whole package with lots of useful stuff. Anyway, my singing voice started to improve after only a few pages into RYV! Reading about the "microbreath" and the "inhalation sensation" opened up a world for me.

I've been trying to learn proper singing for many years now, I had two vocal coaches in my home country who didn't teach me the stuff I needed, I even gave up singing for some years, focusing on my guitar instead and believing I can't sing. I started singing again after I moved to Germany, but kind of lacked proper technique, despite my former lessons, then I got started with another method I bought on the Internet, plus a few lessons with a local vocal coach, and that's where my singing began to improve a bit, yet something was still missing. I was still kinda stuck to my bad habits and didn't seem to get pass my limitations. But in this year since I got RYV, things have been turning for the positive. It also helps that I've gotten more gigs, thus more chances to try theses techniques in a live environment.

I realize that no voice is the same, just like no body is the same, so what works for someone else might not work for me and the other way around. I also have an ongoing struggle with laziness and procrastination (like many of us), but I want to be a good... what the hell, a great singer, and I'm really thankful that I got RYV and that Jaime Vendera and his online community are so accessible.

So here's to a 2014 where I can, indeed, raise my voice and reach as many people as possible. I hope each of you, with your own individual struggles, can get where you want to!

Thanks for reading this and blessings to you all!
Henry

Yes, these things seem like small things but they are in fact gold mines! They are CRUCIAL for good singing.

I realize that no voice is the same, just like no body is the same, so what works for someone else might not work for me and the other way around.
The only thing that "doesn't work" is the way people interpret the information. But if everyone would interpret it the same then all the methods would work the same. This is why it is crucial to really really really pay attention to the instructions to prevent you from misinterpreting anything.

I'm glad you are finally realizing that your desires really are possible and can happen. I was in the same situation as you many years back, thinking that "oh well maybe i'm just not cut out for singing". but if you never give up, you never fail. you eventually get there. it may take longer than you wanted, it may even come quicker, but it eventually happens if you never quit.

Cheers to you and glad you are getting the results you seek.
