THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Vocal Reset

Hey all, using Jaime's "Vocal Reset" e-book to fix the damage I did to my voice from 2 months of oversinging.

Brief Summary of Vocal Reset's "Rest" Section
---------------------------------------------
Day 1: No Talking
Day 2-6: Gradually Start Talking
Day 7: Normal Talking

When should I start singing again normally? Day 8? Or should I spend another 1-2 weeks easing into singing?

Vocal Reset is a 1-week program, but he also says "When resetting your voice, learn to limit conversations FOR A FEW WEEKS to give your voice the rest it needs"...so am I not singing "for a few weeks"?

My previous attempt to fix my voice on my own (6 days rest) failed on me, so I'm thinking of using Jaime's plan, stretched out to 2-3 weeks. Anyone here ever needed 2 or more weeks to recover?

Thanks all!

Re: Vocal Reset

Hi,

Well it's hard to oversing if you have proper technique so I'd have to ask first if you have proper placement?

If not, you'll just end up back in the same problem.

The important part from what I remember is getting vocal cords back into a singing condition. You should probably have good success with lip bubbles, humming, etc, and feel good the next day before you are ready to hit full singing.

So its gradual conditioning and stages, and the remember to care for your voice. The time of course depends on the individual and their condition.

Hope that helps,
Chris

Re: Vocal Reset

Thanks a lot for your tips Chris! In general I have proper placement but pushed too hard recently. I'll use your advice on gradual conditioning and stages for sure.
