THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Re: Venom vocal cover. Critics please

Hey Mike,

When I listened to the A Capella it doesn't sound dry or strained anymore, but it sounds 'pushed'. The push is supposed to come from your belly and add power (if you do use it). It sounds like you might be pushing in the throat or chest area. Again I'm just going by how it sounds.

I would try practicing dragging or extending the grit some in a relaxed state.

Right now it kind of sounds like your 'squeezing' the grit out or running out of air really quick.

Is it comfortable for you to do?

Re: Venom vocal cover. Critics please

Hi Chris!

I think I am squeezing to sound more like Cronos or Lemmy, I cannot distort my voice to their level without squeezing. If I'm doing this in my comfortable range I do not hurt myself, but when I'm singing for example Overkill or Born in the USA I can feel that it kinda hurts and then after singing ive got hoarseness in my speaking voice and my upper register is full of cracks.

Re: Venom vocal cover. Critics please

Hi Chris!
Looks like you was right, I was pushing more in my throat. I must go to ENT because these bad habits really f* my throat. Every time I want to sing with more power Im squeezing my throat. Must change the way I sing and learn 'good grit'

Cheers
Mike

Re: Venom vocal cover. Critics please

Yeah that sucks man.

Make sure to rest-up and get your voice fixed with some Vocal RX. Contact Jaime if you still have problems.

But you can look on the bright side and at least you don't have nodules/vocal probs like Freddie Mercury, Adelle, Sebastian Bach and still need to tour and deliver a trademark voice-destroying sound.
