THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

The perfect way to strenghten the stomach muscles , diaphragm and lungs !

Okay here is what i discovered. I am into bodybuilding these days and a buddy
of mine showed me one exercise that made my stomach muscles rock solid.
You take the position of push ups but instead of that you put your elbows and
you just rest. You dont go up or down. You just rest on your elbows. Try to hang on for at least 1 minute. Breath normally. Now , i took this on the next level.
I rest on my elbows and when i breath in i make sure my belly expands , and then at this stage i start hissing the air out. Its pure hell. To maximise results when you hiss the air tighten the stomach even more , because at this point the muscles will probably be burning and shaking. I do it 5 times in a day. Its very very very helpful. When i practice i can feel that new power. Well i hope i helped some of you. - Val , Macedonia.

That's the plank, quite a good exercise, interesting that it can work while hissing the air out. You should try the dish, as well, and see if doing the same on that would help. To do that, lie down with your legs straight and your arms crossed over your chest. Raise your legs and your back just off the ground and hold that position as long as possible. Here comes that hard part: breathing normally, which is crucial for the exercise to work, is quite hard, so trying to hiss will probably hell, especially the first few times!

if you want to really strengthen the midsection get into V sits, L sits, and other gymnastic movements like that!

Got to do those and more when I was training for the university climbing team. Having a stronger core did actually make quite a bit of a difference in singing and also made me have a much better posture.

That is perhaps the best exercise there is for developing your core muscles. It is great for your back and stomach muscles. My younger brother turned me onto them. I've been living on Tuna for the last week since I've started cutting, and I just started doing them myself. back in the 90's I was doing hundreds of crunches every day. I was obsessed with them. and it is funny, within the last week, I can already see the upper portion of the 6-pack showing up. I thought I had lost it, but nope it is still there, just covered in fat from eating like a horse and sitting on my duff.
