THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

a hole in my voice

Hello people, so to get to the point quickly, ever since my allergic laryngitis, which I had from march to june, I've had issues with my voice, first of all I lost my screaming ability (Jaime said it's probably cause my muscles weakened from vocal restrain), but I even have a higher range than before (3 and a half octaves fully resonant voice), which kind of confused me, then from june to september I couldn't sing high A (don't know which octave it is, it's 5th fret on high E guitar string)but could sing an octave above, and anything below it, and I fixed that issue.

But this time it's way worse,(I was in a loud place trying to talk and I don't talk correctly) this time I can't sing the E below that A, and 2 steps below and above that note sound gritty (in a baaaaad way) and hurt unless I really concentrate to make them loud and resonant, which doesn't suite songs that are based around that note (like Master of Puppets for example, sounds really ugly if I sing it in the original octave).

And whenever I need to jump from the notes around E to something out of that critical range, it gets hard to control, while any other "combination" out of that range feels really easy and powerful and painless and...all that.

So, what I need is someone to tell me how to fix this problem, to get my voice back to the normal pre laryngitis state, when I could sing any note freely, and maybe even get my scream back :S . Thanks in advance :)

P.S. If you need some samples of me singing in and out of that range to figure what it is I'll record it as soon as possible.

Re: a hole in my voice

Rapa, I would seriously consider having your throat scoped by a doctor just to check things out.

Re: a hole in my voice

Ouch, not the answer I was hoping to get , I'll make sure I do anyway :/ thanks,

although last time I checked them (after the laryngitis) they were completely normal apart from one single blood vessel (it was a little wider or something) which they said it's cause the laryngitis is still disappearing and it's what was left of the swelling, and that was about 2 days after last serious symptoms, and 4 months ago :/...Hopefully it's not permanent, thanks again
