THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Things you can do while playing with your stick...

Hey Folks,

Jaime asked that i post the info here for my most recent downloadable e-tutorial. These are great exercises to open and strengthen your wrists, which can be done with a broomstick or piece of dowel from the hardware store. Read down a bit - it's not just for martial artists. (my friend Steve Kilbey of australian greats The Church, as well as Jim Gillette, works with this stuff ;)

Anyway, here it is.

And thanks very much to those who picked up Beyond Pushups. Good luck with it, let me know how it goes, and don't hesitate to post if you have questions.

Cheers,
ryan

Attribute Development for Stick Fighting Vol 1 – Strength and Mobility

Of all the “weapons studies” available to martial artists today, stick fighting is probably the most practical because its principles can be applied to the widest array of objects in your natural environment. Unlike firearms or a knife, the stick also offers a non-lethal means of self-defence when outnumbered, overwhelmed, or confronted by an armed attacker.

Join Coach Murdock as he takes you through this series of cutting edge strength and mobility drills to build your attribute base and train a movement palette upon which to build your stick fighting mastery.

Functional Strength - Exactly Where You Need It

The drills presented in this web tutorial will give you:

· functional grip strength
· better weapon retention
· more powerful strikes
· smoother technique

Coach Murdock has devoted over two decades to the study of stick fighting. These skills have kept him safe while traveling alone in some of the world’s more hostile environments. In this tutorial he shows you some of the staple drills that form the base of his solo stick training.

Recovery-Coordination-Refinement

As you work through these drills you’ll gain an immediate appreciation of how CST creates the movement palette of RMAX FlowFighting®. All of the drills presented here follow the same incremental development protocol of Circular Strength Training®. You’ll first recover the range of motion of your wrists while building strength. You’ll then address coordination as you build functional grip strength in increasingly extreme ranges of motion. Finally, you’ll touch on movement sophistication as you begin to refine your skills, increasing the efficiency with which you can employ your entire structure to wield the stick.

But it’s not just for martial artists!

These drills are excellent for sports like hockey and lacrosse, where the ability to retain your stick in a dynamic environment requires full-range grip strength. These movements also provide excellent compensation for the type of repetitive strain injuries that can develop when the wrist is held in a fixed position in sports like tennis, golf and table tennis. Working your wrists outside the range and depth demanded by those sports is one way that you can ‘injury proof’ your joints for pain-free career longevity. But don’t take our word for it! Get yourself a broomstick or a piece of dowel and try it for yourself!
