THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

UBW

I got it in the mail today, so I tried some of the exercises after I read the whole book. What I noticed was, for my first try of the breath control 1 and 2. Where you hold you breath full of air, and with no air. My first try for #1 was 1:15, my first try for #2 was 1:00.

Is it normal for them to be so close? haha
I was expecting to only be able to make it to 30 seconds or so on #2 but I made it to a minute. I'm exhaling out as much as I can before I hold.

Re: UBW

Some people just naturally have a great lung capacity. My father is like that.

Congratulations on your starting times :). I'm sure you'll make WONDERFUL progress--good luck! :D

Re: UBW

Thanks!

Also another thing, I just did the ab release 1 where you "s" the air out. It's my fourth day for that because I got it from the audio files, but I just got 1:06 ;)

I stopped paying attention and started typing something, then I looked at the timer cuz I felt like I was gonna end soon, and it was 1:06. 12 second improvement from yesterday.

The book seems great so far by the way ;)

Re: UBW

Yes, you will probably notice almost daily or every-other-day improvements in your breath capacity as you continue on.

Just FYI, I am not a big fan of doing other things while you vocalize or while you do breathing exercises. I believe the maximum benefit will only be derived through focus.

Also I think you get more out of ten minutes of good, focused vocalizing/breathing than out of a half hour of the same thing, only with your mind all over the place.

Again, just my personal opinion: Do what works for you :D.

Re: UBW

Get your VAM yet???

Re: UBW

Not yet, hopefully it comes later today or monday.

Re: UBW

Another weird thing that might not actually be weird. I haven't done singing exercises since Tuesday and randomly drank some coffee today, and ate a big jalapeno burger from chili's. Then I randomly decided to sing a bit, and I right away could hit the notes that would take me some warm-up time to get.

Think it could be from doing some of the UBW workouts since tuesday? Everday I did the "s" sustain and did the vocal sustain some days.

Either way, yay for randomly having easier notes.
