THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Siren Help

So for the Siren exercise, I shouldn't feel any strain. Which means even if I can strain a lot and hit an A4 or B4 in my full voice, I should let my voice start to crack at an F4 because eventually I will develop the strength and flexibility to be able to hit those higher notes effortlessly. So far I think I've got all that correct.

So, if I start to crack at F4, should I continue up the scale with a strong head voice or do I stop there and begin to work down? That's the only thing I'm unsure of. Thanks in advance guys

Re: Siren Help

Cracking shouldn't be a part of the exercise. If you do crack, try going over the break very slowly until you've evened out the coordination.

Re: Siren Help

Work on your break. Do the Siren slowly...

Re: Siren Help

And do make sure you maintain the power you begin with. Stay strong, and let your resonance travel into your head... don't allow yourself to sing from your throat like I used to. Let it free and it will come. When I was working with Jaime online he said I sang from my throat too much and that was the greatest observation someone has made on my singing... and a couple weeks later to now, the siren is an extremely simply exercise going up far passed tenor C.

Re: Siren Help

Well when I perform the exercise, I am able to even out my break area and not crack while keeping the same volume and everything, but I'm just wondering if I should keep going up in half steps or if I should go back to C3 and work down.

Re: Siren Help

Keep going up till you can't anymore, then work from c4 and down.
