THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

vocal health

So a fewe weeks ago, after reading Jaime's book, I started drinking a lot more water and quit drinking coffee because I was having all kinds of problems with hoarsness and cracking in my voice, especially on the high stuff. Well, all that is a thing of the past. My voice is WAY smoother(when I want it to be that is! ;-)) no more hoarsness at all, and although I still get some acid reflux from time to time(due I'm sure to poor eating habbits), thanks to the fact that I'm not doing any caffeine it's not nearly as bad and hasn't effected my voice. So although it was hard at first to give up my favorite drink(coffee) it was well worth it, and I highly encourage anyone who is having similar problems to do the same!!

Thanks Jaime!

Re: vocal health

I gave up coffee about 1 1/2 year ago... It was tough at first but well worth it. So did my husband about 6 months ago and he feels much better (less stressed out mostly, he doesn't sing). As for acid reflux, did you try to drink a tea spoon of organic apple cider before your meals? It works well apparently...

Re: vocal health

hey tim, congrats on your decision to take control :D have you considered poor posture as a factor ?? I didn't even know it had an effect on this, but it can actually single handedly produce reflux issues... so..... check that out :P

Re: vocal health

I've also found it helpful to sleep with my head/chest just slightly elevated by pillows. Typically I sleep on my side curled up around a long pillow, but if I've had spicy food that I know might be a problem, I sleep on my back with a pillow under my back and two under my head.
