THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

Trascending Tone Frustration

Hey guys, I'm a Bass and it seems that I simply CANNOT smoothly make the transition! I'm getting extremely frustrated. I always get to the point where the note is thick but cackly-ish, and then a little more and I just FLIP. When I try to do it slowly, I get stuck on the horrendous cacklyish tone and seem to be mentally unable to make the transition. Any advice?

Re: Trascending Tone Frustration

Hey Jake,

it is my opinion that there are some people who simply cannot make a smooth transition between falsetto and full voice. I am one of them. Try performing this exercise starting in a light head voice.

Re: Trascending Tone Frustration

Legatoman, is it possible you could put up a clip to differentiate your terminology for falsetto and light head voice?

Could anybody view the clip and see what's going on? Am I doing it completely wrong?

Re: Trascending Tone Frustration

Jake,

fear not, everyone CAN do it, BUT it will be the most difficual exercise you've ever done!!! Heck, I was teaching online today and even I sucked at it;) It is one exercise that you MUST stay on top of throughout the week to master it!

Re: Trascending Tone Frustration

LOL thanks Jaime that's very assuring
I guess I'll just keep doing it until I get it

Re: Trascending Tone Frustration

Well, I can't tell you what's possible for your voice or not, but I have to say I sound exactly like you in your clip.

Maybe you can learn it from Jaime, if you REALLY can't get the transition from falsetto to full voice to work, I'd suggest trying the transition from a light head voice into full voice...it's also difficult, but it's what works for me and has helped me to expand my range. :]

Good luck with whatever works for you.
