THE VOICE CONNECTION
SOUND OFF

Welcome to The Voice Connection Sound Off; a forum for users of books like Raise Your Voice, Melody to Madness, The Ultimate Breathing Workout, and Unleash Your Creative Mindset, as well as a place for Vendera Vocal Academy members to interact.

This message board was created so that singers could come together and "sound off" to help support each other during vocal development and the creative process of unleashing the creative spark that occurs when writing and producing music. Currently, myself and vocal coaches Ben Valen, Ray West, and Ryan Wall are here to respond periodicially to your questions, with new vocal coaches coming soon. But, feel free to help each other too:)

This board is here for you to ask questions about my and my fellow coach's books, videos, and MP3 programs, as well as offer others help with our vocal techniques. You may also post videos of yourself and your band to share your music and ask for critiques.

Please refrain from negative comments, profanities, spamming, and inappropriate criticisms of vocal methodologies, vocal coaches, and singers. All negative posts will be deleted and subject to banning without question. I will not respond to negative posts, because, as Mark Twain once said, “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” With that said, positive criticism is welcome because that is how you'll grow as a singer during the training process.

When it all comes together.

So has this ever happened to any of you? I was just driving home from work and not really even trying that hard I just decided to sing for whatever reason. (I've only spend 3 years trying to learn and get better, go figure.) But everything I've spent trying to put to muscle memory, and just about everything came together. I was singing notes that where higher with more power then I ever had, and the best part no tension in the throat. (It seems being relaxed and happy about being off work is the best vocal energizer) But I'm just wondering if anyone else has learned the most when they weren’t trying or expecting?

Re: When it all comes together.

Thomas Appell in his book "Can you sing a High C?" writes that he practiced for a year everyday without a lot of progress and then in one day (!) he went up 4 notes!

Re: When it all comes together.

Yeah, that happens to me all the time. Things just happen all the sudden, and it's like "where did that come from?" With me though it can be frustrating, 'cause I'll suddenly make a breakthrough and be like "holy crap I did it" and then I'll try to repeat it and wont be able to do it again! So much of what we do as singers is a mind game, 'cause we can't really see what's going on like we could if we were playing guitar or something, so everything has to be done with visualizations. Congrats though! It's a great feeling when things come together like that!

Re: When it all comes together.

Thats exactly what happened to me. I was driving to my Dad's singing away then BAM I was hitting notes I could never hit before. it was an amazing feeling, which was repeated about a week and a half ago. I realized how to regulate air flow and sing in my head voice much better.
